Steven still acutely remembers the day he walked into school, all of nine years old, clutching his mother’s battered old copy of The Lord of The Rings and trying to understand why his teacher was giving him weird looks. The teacher later asked him during Reading Time if he wouldn’t prefer a less grown up book? She didn’t realize it at the time, but she had just cemented an unshakable resolve within the little boy to read as many grown up books as possible just to prove he could; a resolve which has softened and evolved into an appreciation of books generally for the now grown up (biologically if not mentally) Steve. Like his heroes from the fiction world however, merely observing the fun was never enough for him, and he soon began to obsess about putting one or two of his ideas into written form. A number of half-finished plans for characters and adventures can still be found scrawled in truly diabolical handwriting in the backs of his old exercise books (and on scraps of notepaper in his current office – some things never change!)

Unfortunately, Steve’s starry-eyed aspirations to write stories to share with the world had to wait. After graduating from university and qualifying as a lawyer in Surrey, United Kingdom, (thus fulfilling his mother’s command to ‘do something worthwhile’) he finally found the time and space to give it a try for real and rediscover his love of creating a world of his own. This time ’round though, he finds himself rooting for the bad guy far less; he’s come a long way from saying that Frodo was in the wrong because “it was Sauron’s ring in the first place”.

These days Steve lives in Hampshire in the UK, sharing a house with other young professional types and getting on with his career whilst wrestling the urge to write into submission until he can find time to indulge it.

Shifter

As a young professional guy, John is finally beginning to make sense of his life. He enjoys his job, has plans for the future, lives in a shabby but cozy flat; he’s taking his first steps towards being a fully fledged grown-up, if only he can get his head around being a responsible adult. But when the world starts to distort and reform around him, John’s perception of himself, life and of reality itself is completely shattered.

When he realizes that the catastrophic shifts in space and time are somehow connected to him, almost conforming to his unconscious desires, John begins to fear for his sanity. He struggles to understand, taking ever more desperate measures to unearth the truth and attracting the attention of a deadly organization that will stop at nothing to capture him.

Aided by his unlikely companions and uncertain of whom he can trust, John is caught in an escalating tide of danger and deceit as he attempts to discover the source of these shifts in reality and reclaim control of his life.
