Epic Book Awards (eppies)

OK, for those of you out there who are new authors, small press authors, or independently published authors, there is a web page you have to know about. It’s called epic, and it is the site of the Epic Book awards (or Eppies).
I think submitting a book to the Eppies is like a 30 or 40 dollar fee depending on if you’re a member or not. A lot of the time, publishers will enter their books into the Eppies on behalf of their writers (hint…hint…).
As far as I know, this is the biggest of the small-press book award competitions. If you know of any more, please put them down in the comment box below. Make sure you put in the legitimate contests only, and not the ridiculous ones that want you to pay a $1000 dollar entry fee or something (word to the wise…don’t enter those).
The thing about book awards is that if you win something, then you’re able to put “Award Winning Author” after your name every time you make a post (which should count for something…although a lot of things that should count for something rarely do…like the degree in English literature that I spent all that time and money to obtain…). However, I think it should also be noted that a lot of people who have “Award Winning Author” behind their name are only referring to their own personal contest which they established and then, subsequently, won.
I suppose you could submit your book to the “Hugo” or “Nebula” awards (those would be HUGE), but honestly, I don’t know if they’re any more honest than the afore mentioned “invented for the purposes of marketing” award.
Please share your thoughts on this matter if you have any…
